Audience Profile

The genre of my music video is Pop so my main target audience is teenagers both boys and girls so it would be a unisex audience, but I believe it would get the attention of girls more as the video includes dancing, bright colours and close friendships between the girls in the band which can relate to teenage girls. My audience would listen to more chart music as this has all the resent bands and artists music which gets a lot of attention from the public. So a typical person who would enjoy this kind of music would be Becky Wooding as she likes to listen to the charts and keeps up to date with what's number 1 so she can add it to her Ipod. She reads magazine such as 'we love pop' and 'billboard' as these show the kind of artists that are shown on the chart list which is made for teenagers. She enjoys textiles and arty activities as she is very creative and likes to use bright colours to make her work stand out. She likes artists like, Adele, Cheryl Cole, Rita Ora, Owl City, Florence and the machines which are all the same sort of genre. Her idol for years were the Jones Brothers as there music was Pop and the boy interested her also The Saturdays which is another band that gets her attention. She is out going and likes to spend time with her friends either out in the sun or in watching television. She also wants to go to university to do textiles as she enjoys this subject and has always dreamed of going. The overall audience im going for will be teenagers from the age of 14 to 18 as The Lazerlights are a fun, exciting and interesting new girl band that will connect with this age of audience.

Genre Of Video

The music video I have choosen is Little Mix, Wings. The genre of this video is pop and it is a girl band. They use four girls with all the same sort of style but all have their individual looks that gets the audiences attention.

The music video doesnt link back to the lyrics though out the performance as the video is quite straight forward. The video mainly uses the green sreens for effects on the background to make it look more effective and abstract. This video illustrates the sound as its the most important part of the video as they edit the video to the beat and rhythm of song. They us unusual ideas to creartive the video and surrealistic elements so the music video doesnt look like any other video thats been made. The video links to the genre of the song by the layout and editing of the video and also the clothes they wear, as each girl has a different style that relates to their personalities. This video is quite straight forward but they use a lot of animation and they would of filmed in the stuido as it isnt a relistic video which would normal be filmed outside. The video repeats a lot of the same clips which are really shot but it uses bright eye cathcing colours. In this video they set the over all mood of the song with the beat of the drums as the camera shots are edited to each beat at the begining of the song and carries on. All the girls work together to get the rhythm of the song and dance to the beat at the same time which makes the video interesting and effective to get the audience. In the performance of the video they use a lot of individual close ups of lip-sync and separate shots on their own to get more of a detailed shot where they can move around and do what they want which comes across as a fun dancing music video. They repeat shots of the girls singing and shots of them being together which draws your attention and they use over head camera shots (cran) which gets the whole dance crew in one shot which makes it look fun and interesting. The music video starts with mid shots of all of the girls in different settings, then it uses close ups of each of the girls when they have their solos and zooms into the shot away from the rest then goes to a mid shot allowing you to see the background. They use pan shots and crane shots when showing the dancing part and the four girls together whilst they move around and the walking towards the camera which is a dolly movement this gets everything they do into one shot. It uses a montage editing jumping from singer to singer and location to location to get each setting into the video and they also dance to the beat by marching. They use artifical lighting when using close ups on the singers and extreme lighting when doing long shots so they can focus on the girls. The over all Mise-ene-scene uses bright colours which describes their personalities and styles. They also mainly do their own thing in the video and just shows them having fun.

Evaluation Questions

1. Why did you choose the text you are analysing?
I choose the band Busted and their song 'what I go to school for' as it relates to the age im at and I have seen this music video before as many teenagers have heard of them. Also the video is easy to story board and pick out the right elements you need to make the music video again.
2. In what context did you encounter it?
I used to listen to Busted when I was younger and in media at my school they had used this piece of text any times as it helps the students like me start to get an understanding of how to put a music video together and being able to use any song as long as you know how long it is and the shots you will be needing to make it flow properly.
3. What influence do you think this context might have had on your interpretation of the text?
I already knew the words to the song and had seen the music video many times before so it made it easier for me to work with the text and understand how to lay it out to get the best shots for the music video we were re-doing for are first task. The whole class enjoyed making the music video too as we all knew the song and got into the making of it, allowing us to put are own ideas into the video by clothing, positioning of the camera and people we wanted to play certain parts.
4. Which conventions of the genre do you recognize in the text?
The genre of the music video is shown through the way they look as there dressed as teenagers as well as the setting in a school and the words they sing which gets the attention of the audience as the band are trying to get teenagers to watch it as their market audience and by the way they have made the video it reaches out to that market. Also you can tell its pop from the camera shots of the three members of the band playing there guitars and jumping, it is a representation of the genre 'pop'.
5. To what extent does this text stretch the conventions of the genre?
The video uses shots like the guitar scene when its shown to be outside with a big group of people and everyone jumping at the same time which gives the genre the push to be pop as well as at the beginning the shots they use of the close up of the teacher and the way the dialogue comes into the video it makes it all very teenage pop.
6. Where and why does the text depart from the conventions of the genre?
Throughout the music video there is shots of animals that don't really fit into the genre but this is shown as it relates to part of the video where they turn the projector on and it shows clips of what the class is watching so you get the full idea of what the music video's about.
7. What sot of audience did you feel that the video was aimed at (and how typical was this of the genre/style of music)? The music video would defiantly be aimed at teenagers who go to school or college as this is the sort of genre they go for and enjoy as well as they style of the video being set in a school and using a story about school in a fun way but maybe not in the most respectful and believable kind of way. It is very dance/pop style of music which attracts the teenagers age range when it comes to music.
8. What sort of person does it assume you are?
When listening and watching this music video it would show girls and boys that would both be interested. Girls mainly for the band members and the boys for the music video and the story to it, the sort of person to watch this video would be teenagers as this is there sort of music and genre there into.
9. What assumptions seem to be made about your class, age, gender and ethnicity?
It shows that the age range for this video would be teenagers in college and high education school and would include both girls and boys as the band is very out going and like to make their video's stand out. The ethnicity would be any loud out going person that likes to listen to pop and the way this band do it in which is a fun enjoyable way to play music. Middle class people would listen to this music as its got a good beat and shows how schools are and why people go to school or wish for it to be the reason they went to school.
10. What interests does it assume you have?
The video might show you don't enjoy school that much but you love being out with friends and enjoying yourself without having people on your back to do things defiantly for school, which teens don't enjoy.
11. What relevance does the text actually have for you?
I enjoy this song as it makes me laugh what there actually singing about and it shows how school could be fun and how you can image for it to be like that so it opens up your imagination which helps when your at school or college like I am. Music is the only thing that gets some teenagers through the day and songs like this can relate to them.
12. What knowledge does it take for granted?
The video shows that school isn't that good and interesting as they only go because they have a good looking teacher but school shouldn't be taken for granted as it helps people get to what they want in the future as well as this band that made the song. Everyone has to start off at school to be able to achieve the things they want out of life.
13. To what extent do you resemble the 'ideal reader' that the video seeks to position you as?
I think the video wants to get the attention of all teenagers who are at school and at the age where they like boy bands and like pop music. I enjoy the video as a reader but it isn't believable but then again not may music videos are, but its a funny video that makes me laugh and would do the same to others as the band member like to be guffy and silly when in the video which draws more people into it as its not a serious video.
14. Are there any notable shifts in the video's style (and if so, what do they involve)?
The video pretty much stays to one style which is pop through the clip I have watched which is 1:14 long. All the camera shots are pretty simple and stay using the same shots through out the music video with hardly any movement in it, but it makes the video work even though it doesn't use many techniques.
15. What responses does the video seem to expect from you?
I think the video wants the response of having fun and letting go as it isn't a serious music video its just a bit of fun and a laugh as the band members are down to earth fun lads and don't take things to serious which is shown through there music and they hope it rubs off on the viewers.
16. How open to negotiation is your response (are you invited, instructed or coerced to respond in particular ways)? I think the video invites you in if your at the age of a teenager as you understand the concept of the music video but if you any other age it might be a bit out spoken but that's what the videos about so it can come across in many different ways to different aged people.
17. Is there any penalty for not responding in the expected ways?
I think the music video is an all round laugh and it doesn't matter who watches it as you either like or not which the band and directors who made it understand but they like to keep to there own style and genre which is not a bad thing as one music video will use them same sort of style like all the others so the audience can pick out what music's theirs.
18. To what extent do you find yourself 'reading against the grain' of the text and the genre?
When it comes to music videos I enjoy a good music video but as well I like to listen to the lyrics and be able to understand them and relate to them and in this song I enjoy how they make a boring genre into a fun video which makes me want to listen to it more and the lyrics of the song are just funny and connect what the band members are like.
19. How typical do you think this video is of Music Video's?
This music video is quite typical when it comes to pop videos but it over steps the boundaries and draws your attention to it. The lyrics and the way they've structured the video makes it more interesting and is different to other pop music videos.

Cheryl - Call My Name Video

This video is a Amplification where they use performance and narrative to bring the lyrics together with the song but the performance doesn't have much to do with the lyrics as its more of a pop party song. They use unusual ideas and approaches to get a good dance feeling to the music video. The direct link to the song is the beat which is the drums it comes on at the beginning for the intro and carries on into the song. The narrative is suggestive as it isn't straight forward to connect to the lyrics it is more of an interesting, exciting video to get the audience's attention. The musical synaesthesia over all mood it set by the main beat running through the song which is the drum as its loud and fast. The performance uses lip sync close ups on the singer and close ups and long shots of them dancing which is the main bit to the video. The shots mainly focus on getting the location there in and being able to see what she's wearing as she a sex object in the video which appeals to men. The shots used are long shots, mid shots and close ups of mainly her face to see the expression. The camera movement used panning which followers her face and body as well as zooming to get a close view or see more of the scene around her. The editing uses fast action shots flashing back and forth through different shots of her moving which goes to the beat of them music and goes into the chorus. The lighting that's mainly used is artificial that makes the video more party like and gives flashing light when they dance. The Mise-en-scene is having a good time by dancing with a group of guys and using a urban places to perform it.

Nicki Minaj Ft Chris Brown- Right By My Side Video

This is a Amplification video as the performance and narrative is used in the music video with creative ideas as it isn't just a straight forward love song. The way its put together makes it unusual and unique as well as the elements of singing used in it. The direct link in the song is the drums as they are the main instrument used and gives it that up beat tempo. The narrative code is loose but by using Chris Brown the singer and the way they lay the song out it makes it interesting to watch and listen to. The musical synaesthesia is the over all mood of the song which is the key instrument, drums this is played through out the whole song. She uses lip syncing in the song as well as acting out the narrative making it a story and also participating in the performance allowing close ups and extreme close ups on her face showing emotion. It also uses another singer that gives a different feel to the song and shows him singing whilst the performance is going on with Nicki and also singing in the same shot. The camera shots used are long shots, mid shots, close ups and extreme close ups to get the body language and facial expression in. The camera movement used walking shot and panning bit it doesn't use to much there more still shots. The beat and rhythm of the track provides the editing movement from scene to scene also using fast editing on their faces. The lighting is expressive and they also use artificial lighting when its just the two singers. The Mise-en-scene is in a big house with nice weather, looking good going shopping.

Alex Clare - Too Close Video

This is a Amplification as its a creative music video but very simple at the same time. The performance and narrative don't go together but the lyrics of the song illustrate the creative interpretation and unusual ideas used for the video. The direct link to the song is the beat used as its the thing that stands out and stays in the audience's head. The narrative is loose as its about love but the video makes it more interesting as its not a normal love music video. The musical synaesthesia is the dominant arrangement that sets the over all mood which is the drum as the main beat in the background of the song. The performance uses lip sync which uses close up shots and extreme close ups to see what his saying and his facial expressions. There isn't a story shown in the video to the narrative and he isn't involved with the fighting scenes. The camera shots used are long shots, close ups, mid shots and extreme close ups to get all the detail into the video. The camera movement used is panning that slowly moves around the two people fighting so you get every shot. The editing is action shots of the fight that skip to different parts, using a variety of camera shots. The lighting is expressive which is used in all music videos to get a good light on the artist. The Mise-en-scene is in a industrial building site.

Will.i.am Ft Evan Simons - This Is Love Video

This is a Amplification it is a creative video as the performance and narrative are used in the music video but the lyrics aren't expressed very well through the video it uses more of an unusual idea to get the audiences attention. The direct link is the beat its a pop song with more bass to it, which means its a dance song more than a sad love song using slow music. The narrative is suggestive as it isn't a simple story music video it has more to it which will get the audience's attention and will want to watch it. The musical synaesthesia is dominant arrangement which sets the overall mood with a key instrument that is the piano, this instrument stands out well in the song and the beat of the drums comes in at the chorus that gives it more of a party beat. There is seen to be two people in the song they use close ups on the face at the beginning and when ever it comes to the chorus they use a close up on the girl singer getting her lip sync in which uses a mid shot or close up. The singer doesn't become part of the narrative as it isn't a story board performance. The camera shots used are long shots, close ups and extreme close ups. The camera movements used are panning and zooming in and out to get a close view on what's going on. The editing goes from the location of London bridge to a computer screen showing. The lighting is expressive which is used in all music videos getting the average look to the singers. The Mise-en-scene is a party song shown in London.

Lily Allen - Smile Video

This video is a Amplification as it uses a simple narrative with a performance that people can relate to. It uses simple ideas to put the video together but also has strange approaches to how to deal with a break up which is the idea of the song. The direct link to the song is the title as its a happy love song getting her pay back on someone that hurt her. The narrative code is loose as it is a realistic video of every day life problems that couples run into but it gets the attention of the audience as it has an interesting twist to it. The musical synaesthesia is the dominant arrangement as it sets the over all mood which is the drums that give it the beat for the song. The music video uses lip sync close ups on the singer singing and uses angles and shots to get the best expressions of her face across as that's what's she uses to get how she feel across to the audience. The lead singer becomes part of the narrative story in the music video which shows her emotion. The camera shots used are long shots and close ups, the video doesn't really use extreme close ups on the eyes as all the emotion is in her face. The camera movement used is panning watching him walk and see what he can see also the editing goes from location to location so you can see what people are doing whilst the other scene is normal. The expressive lighting is used as its the key feature used in music videos also the Mise-en-scene is shown in a average neighbourhood but there are chavy people that will do things for money.

Taylor Swift - You Belong With Me Video

This video is a Amplification as the performance and narrative are connected and the lead singer becomes part of the narrative which tells a story. The lyrics and sound are country and it uses creative ideas when it comes to showing the story of the song to the audience. There is a direct link between the song title and the lyrics as it describes the song very well. The narrative is loose as its simple to get and understand it is well played out in the video by using the same person for two different characters which best describes the music video. The main beat to the song is the song that sets the main mood as well as a bit of drum in the background giving it more of an up beat tempo. The performance uses lip sync through the video but only on the blonde girl showing that its her song about her feelings also the camera uses a lot of long shots and close ups of the girl and the boy she likes that makes the lyrics clear. The camera movement uses hand held to get close to the expressions of their faces and body language also the dolly track as it follows the lads playing football getting the whole scene into one shot. The editing goes through the video in order jumping from the two girls and the different styles they have. The lighting is Expressive lighting which is a key feature to make sure you are able to see the main characters well. The Mise-en-scene is in an america football game at school showing different types of groups.

Mika - Grace Kelly Video

This is a Amplification music video as the singer performance and becomes part of the narrative in the video. The video uses a young girl through it who talks but uses an over voice from someone else which makes her sound older than she actual is. The video uses a variety of different aged people making it a wider open video for the audience. The song links well to the video as its just having fun and connects to the lyrics. The narrative code of the video is loose as it is based in a house and uses simple ideas so the audience might find it boring after a while, the lighting they use in it make it look interesting and stands out but there isn't anything unique to it.The dominant musical arrangement that sets the overall mood is the piano as it starts at the beginning showing him playing it and its the instrument that gives it the beat to the song. It uses a lot of lip syncing of close ups mainly as this is the primarily choice to get the whole view of the singers face and extreme close ups and long shots are used when it comes to the chorus as they use different angles. This is more of a performance than Mika being in the narrative as it doesn't show a story to it, as the video doesn't connect with the lyrics. The camera movement used in this video is whip pans that get the whole shot in one as well as fast dolly track being used to get the scene into one. The editing jumps from location to location showing the band and then the narrative comes into play through out the video showing a montage editing shots. The lighting is a key feature when it comes to a music video using extreme lights to stand out in the dark and placed around his face to see expression. The Mise-en-scene is just set in a house with family and friends having a party.

The Script - The Man Who Cant Be Moved Video

This is a Amplification music video as he uses performance and narrative in the video to get the story of the song across to the audience. They focus on the lyrics in the video and making sure they are heard as well as making sure the creative interpretation of the video goes with the song which best describes it. The direct link to this song is the lyrics and the song title as it explains the whole reason to the video. The narrative to the video is loose as it is based on a romantic story of a man who cant be moved till he finds the girl he was looking for and this is shown through the video which connects to other people that makes it interesting to watch. The dominant musical arrangement which sets the overall mood in the video is the guitar as it starts with it on its own and carries on as the main instrument. The script is a band but in this video it mainly shows Danny as his the lead singer, it shows him performing throughout the video and shows him lip sync also using the band members showing them playing there instruments and using camera shots and angles to get the best shots. Danny has became part of the narrative story which means he is acting as narrator and participating in the song at the same time. The camera shots used jump between long shots, close ups and extreme close ups  in the video showing different emotions and different scenes. The close up shot is used the most on singers faces to get the expressions across. The camera movement used dolly track which follows him walking down the street. The editing jumps from location to person singing then to the band playing together and changes to the beat as at the chorus it gets more up beat and faster. The lighting is the key feature in the video to express  how that looks and feels as they use brighter lighter when its a close up. The Mise-en-scene is the overall artistic concept which is New York citizen walking the streets.

The Ting Tings - Thats Not My Name Video

This video is a Illustration as it is a straight forward video, because it doesn't use many different scene they only use one setting for the whole music video by using a green screen as the background. It has a very simple narrative and show it in a straight forward way by using different coloured backgrounds making the video more exciting. There's two people in the band which include the women singing and man playing the drums. The narrative is loose as there isn't much to it and the video is interesting at first but to simple to get much attention. The musical synaesthesia is the overall mood which is fun and playful that will connect to the audience they are going for. In the video there is lip sync when the women sings and mimed playing of instruments which is the man on the drums using camera shots and angles to get the best look for the video but there is no other instrument shown in the video. They rely on just a drum to give it a good beat to the song which will help the shots come together. They use close ups, extreme close ups and long shots but the main one they use is the primary close up of the singer's face which is the main generic convention for music videos. The camera movements they use are mainly whip pans and low shots that pan which gets all the body movements in and the instruments which describes the video. The editing goes to the beat which is in rhythm with the drums which jump from shot to shot with different backgrounds and angles. The lighting expresses the key features and they use artificial light to create a bleaching effect on the artists. The Mise-en-scene of the overall artistic concept is pop, as they use bright lights and many beats.

Pixie Lott - Broken Arrow Video

This video is a Amplification which shows the performance and narrative in the music video by illustrating the lyrics and amplifying creative interpretation to how the video should be performed according to the lyrics. The songs title and lyrics are a direct link also the beat which links to the song. The narrative is suggestive and uses a lot of detail and emotion so the audience enjoy it and want to watch it again. The musical and lyrical mood develops the narratives concept and gives more of a feel to it. In the music video they use many close ups, extreme close ups and shots of the eyes to show all the emotion she is feeling whilst singing the song. The video will cut between the performance and narrative as the solo artist becomes part of the narrative story, she is singing about something that has happened to her. There are many different scene in the video and they all relate back to one where she is dancing with a man this tells use they narrative is based on those two and there the main characters in the music video. The camera shots go from close ups of her face to long shots of the surroundings and the people she's with and extreme close ups on things she can she which gives the audience more of a view on how she feels, also they use lip sync which use close ups and show the mood and feelings through her eyes. The camera movements used are hand held and panning which gets a better view of the set and the emotion being showed. The editing goes from location to location and comes back to the set when there dancing showing the meaning of the lyrics which works with the rhythm of the song. The lighting shows the expressions shown on her face whilst she is singing and use light colours when its her and when its multiple people its a darker colour but light is still shown on her. The Mise-en-scene concept is love.

Ed Sheeran - Drunk Video

This video is a Amplification the performance and narrative relate to the video very well and they use the lyrics and sound to connect to the song, also amplifying the creative interpretation and unusual ideas to get the attention of the audience. There is a direct link to the song through the beat used as every time it comes to the chorus and through out the song it is used which stands out. The narrative code is loose but the shots and settings make the video more interesting and suggestive, it will make people want to watch it again as it is different as it uses a talking cat and shows the feeling of losing someone which sets the mood  to develop the narrative concept, this is set by the bass of the drums being used in the video. The camera directly focuses on Ed and the girl he is singing about using close ups and shots of eyes but the music video doesn't use any lip sync which works well with the lyrics and the way they've done the video, using a cat that can talk to him as his drunk which links to the title of the song. The video used many close ups of the alcohol and facial expressions and extreme close ups on the cat when it talks also using long shots to see the whole scene and what the lyrics are explaining in the scene. Hand held is the most used movement in the video changing from character to character getting the mood into the shot. The editing is a montage which goes from shot to shot quickly but describes everything happening. It also uses the beat and rhythm of the track to provide the movement being used which shows the narrative of the video. The lighting is dark and it only light when showing the girl his singing about which suggests the moods his going through. The Mise-en-scene is a love concept but broken hearted.

The Killers - Human Video

This video is a Amplification they use a creative idea shown in the desert using there band as the main scene. They use the performance and narrative to set the scene at the beginning and use the lyrics and sound to direct the video which sets the scene. The direct link is shown by the setting of the video which connects with the lyrics of the song and the title that is 'human'. The narrative is loose just showing one set that is shown in the desert and using simple shots and approaches to the look on the video. It gets the eye of the audience but could be to simple for some people and not get to much attention. There is a musical synaesthesia that sets the mood of the narrative. The video is constructed with a mid shot of the band and a close up of the main singer lip syncing to the song as well as using the other band members instruments being played as part of the video. The video uses repetition when showing the chorus shots to enhance repeatability using camera shots and angles to gain the feeling of the video. The camera shots used are close ups, extreme close ups, mid shots and long shots to get every part of the scene and closes ups are mainly used for lip sync. They use a lot of panning shots and hand held camera movements when filming each band member. The editing used in the video is montage from the main scene to a wide view of the main set of the video and shots of animals that link to the lyrics. The lighting is used by the sun and the background lighting as well as face lighting so you can see what his saying. The Mise-en-scene in the video is simple and describes how everyone's equal.

Demi Lovato - Skyscraper Video

This is a Illustration music video as it is a straight forward video shown on one simple scene which is set in the desert with one piece of light, that is shown as the sun that makes the singers faces stand out. The whole video is mainly based on the lyrics that are being sung as that's the directors main point they want to get across. The narrative is very loose as it can be understood by many people the same age as the singer and the music video gets the feeling of the lyrics across to the audience as the musical synaesthesia only requires the lyrical mood which develops the narratives concept. The calmness in her voice and the tone used throughout the song sets the mood and get the title of the song across to the audience. The first shot used is a long shot of the artist in the distance and shown her walking closer to the camera then enhancing on her eyes to show the feeling of the song. She acts out the whole song through her facial expressions and the movement she uses when walking around the set. They use low shots panning of her quite a bit through the video which links to the title of the song making her stand out and look tall. The editing jumps from close ups to long shots of different shots of her and other objects being used in the video. They mainly focus on her but they use the colour red which shows love and make it stand out. The lighting is shown on her face to make her stand out and using natural light to, e.g the sun. The Mise-en-scene is the concept of love being sung.

You Me At Six - Liquid Confidence Video

This music video is very similar concept to the fall out boys video as its a Amplification and the main set is on the stage with all the band singing into the camera also using the lyrics and sound to create a genre concept which gets the audience attention. The video doesn't link to the lyrics but the video is very simple and works more on the narrative to make it more interesting but this video is very plain it doesn't have much to it as it goes from one scene to another whilst you see the artist lip sync through the whole performance having his band in the back ground the whole time whilst they play their instruments or just sit there. The beats dominant the music and gets the attention as that's the sort of music they make as they are seen as a British rock band. This is performed in the same way as the fall out boys video just in a different order. It starts showing the whole band the close up of there instruments playing and miming which enhances the chorus every time they repeat it. The camera shots go from close up to mid shot to long shot showing all the different things happening in the one shot. The camera movement used is the dolly showing them walking and crane shot coming in on them showing them on stage singing. The editing goes from one location to another showing each of the band members and what there doing at the time using different camera shots. The lighting is bright from the back on stage using stage lights, and when they are walking the lights become brighter on there faces. The overall Mise-en-scene is rock.

Fall Out Boys - Thanks For The Memories Video

This music video is a Amplification as its a simple video of the band performing but they use other scene through out the video to give it more variety. The narrative isn't simply illustrated in the video by using just the lyrics and sound they also amplify the creative interpretation using unusual ideas for example they use extras in the music video but they aren't people as such, they decide to use griller's to connect with the song and get the audience's attention. The direct link through this song is the beat as it stands out and brings the video together. This narrative is suggestive as it makes the viewers want to watch it over and over again as it is different and unique to other music videos. It also describes the bands music genre as they use many loud beat styles in there songs and extreme videos that will get the attention of the audience. It has a dominant music arrangement that gets the over all mood of the video which is the beat that gets that rock, blues kind of feeling across to the audience and they show this off by recording the drum beats and the style of guitar being used. The performance of the video is shown to be using lip sync that use close ups, mimed playing of the guitar and other instruments, using different camera shots and angles to get the feeling of the video caught in shots like sweeping crane and mid shot. The shots jump from long shots to mid shots to close ups to get the whole band in the shot and individual moves to capture the shot they want. Other movement shots like fast dolly to get movement of the characters into one shot as well as crane shot of over head to get the whole set into one shot. They use editing to go from one scene to another for example the band performing on the stage then to back stage seeing what happens behind the scenes. The shots are put together quickly and to sync with the song using only a few different locations. The lighting used is bright and stands out behind them, flashing and over head on there face to see there expressions better. The overall Mise-en-scene is the blues style of music video.

Panic At The Disco - I Write Sins Not Tragedies Video

This video is a Disjuncture as there is some links between the song and the video but not many obvious links. It is set in a church as two people are getting married and that is the narrative at the beginning but the title of the song explains every thing 'I write sins not tragedies'. Panic at the disco is a band but the main singer is only shown in this video. The people shown in the video are all dressed in costumes from the circus and the man from the band is the circus owner controlling everyone on what to do. The drum is the main instrument in the video as it stands out and is louder than the other instruments to show exaggeration in the song. They stand out to other bands as there music sound is different and they use close ups when lip syncing and the chorus is repeated a lot of the time with more exaggeration on it, using the usually camera shots and angles. The only two shots it goes from is the church to the main singer in a room on his own using close ups, long shots and extreme close ups which is jump cutting from shot to shot. The lighting is shown from above on some people and from the side on others to show two different sorts of people. The Mise-en-scene is getting people out the comfort zones and decovering the truth about themselves and others.

Vanessa Carlton - A Thousand Miles Video

This video is a Amplification music video as Vanessa uses both performance and narrative in the video. The main feature in the video is the piano as she is on it the whole time and the director uses the fast dolly track shot to follow her movement as well as using a green screen for some of the background needed as they cant pull the piano around every where but they make it look as realistic as possible. The video links to the song and lyrics as when she sings she is moving and the shots are always different showing her in different set shots. They use a side shot of her a lot so you can see her playing the piano as they bring in the instrument. The narrative is very complex as it is just a girl on a piano going to different spots around america, which links to the song of the narratives concept. The piano sets the whole mood of the music video which is the dominant musical arrangement. The first camera shot is of the piano and then you see the artist and a long shot of her and the piano which sets the scene. It is shown to be a very friendly video as it includes many different people in a variety of different places. They use close ups and lip syncing through out the video and cut from her moving playing the piano to stood still with a background of people in different situation. The lighting it natural light but there is always a spot light above her to make her stand out. The overall concept of the Mise-en-scene is a love song say she will travel all over to be with the person she loves which is shown in the video by her moving the whole time.

Jo Jo - Too Little To Late Video

This video is a Amplification as they use many different scene through out the video. She uses both performance and narrative in the video which illustrates the lyrics and has an input of creative interpretations and ideas to make the video more interesting and stand out. There is a direct ling through the song which is using the beats of the drum which links the lyrics and makes them really stand out what she's trying to say. This narrative relates to many teen girls so the audience for the video would be limited but the reasoning for it can relate to many people that understand the concept of the video. The main mood shown in this is be-trail and this is shown by using the beat of the drums and the editing used when showing two different scene and you can see what both characters in the video are doing, which lets you decide who's in the wrong. At the beginning of the video close ups, long shots and extreme close ups are all used to get a feel of the narrative and shows the solo artist. This video is shown on a urban landscape in america using the football side to it and the parties they have, which connects with the audience. Extreme close ups are used through out to show the artist lip syncing. Camera shots use a lot of hand held movement so you can see the artist and how she feels from the way she move towards the camera. The lighting is light at the beginning and starts to get darker through out the video which sets the mood of the song, but light is always shown on her face. The whole Mise-en-scene is a break up and the lyrics connect to her feelings.

Rihanna - Take A Bow Video

This video is a Amplification as it is set in a house and uses more than just a green screen. In this video Rihanna uses creative interpretation for the meanings of her lyrics and uses ideas to make the video keep to the narrative of the song. The video has a direct link to the song throughout the video with the music and how the shots are put together to give it a meaning. The narrative is more suggestive for this video as the song has an element of two scenes used which shows her singing in the dark using close ups, long shots and shots of eyes allowing use to see her facial expressions and body language which adds more to the video. The other scenes that are used are of her and her boyfriend fighting using the house as the main set and also her in her car driving away from him using action shots of both sets forming into one, which tells the story from the lyrics. They use a lot of eye-line shots where she is looking into the camera and singing to the audience. The clapping in the video is the main beat that is carried through out the whole music video which also connects with the lyrics as well as using the piano which gives you a sense of a love song. This is more of an R&B landscape using the american streets as the set of the video. They use a fast dolly track shot which shows her in the car so they can get a moving shot of what's going on giving more effect to the song. The light is natural sun light when outside and they use over head light when she is inside and on the green screen to make her stand out.

Drake Ft Rihanna - Take Care Video

This video is a Illustration as it includes two people singing in the music video acting out the lyrics in the song as its a love song between two people but the video is pretty straight forward R&B video as it focuses on  both artistes mime in the song and it uses animals on a white background as they use a green screen when the artists are singing and as well when there are dancers on screen the only part that isn't done on a green screen is a few shots showing you the snow fallen mountains that set the scene for the song and connects with the feeling of the lyrics. The narrative of the video is loose as it is very complex and becomes boring to watch after a few views as there isn't much to the video. The overall mood is cap-chard by using a piano which gets the feeling of love and their are mid shots of them hugging and him singing to her about how he feels which describes the lyrics very well. Drake is the main featured artist in this video as there are many close ups jumping between long shots and extreme close ups of him miming which they use a lip synch. The editing used is jump cutting which is called montage editing which is where they have a visually on the artist but it jumps to other locations whilst he is singing and also showing animals and dancers moving to the beat of the music which provides for editing movement. The lighting is shown behind and on top of the artists when there singing to be able to see there face and body language, it stays with the colours black and white through out the video.

Album Covers 5

These covers are all different but they all stand out to me. I love how simple and plain Rizzle Kicks album cover is but it describes them straight off and the style of music they play, they don't put on a front they like to keep things simple and straight to the point as that's the type of people they are and the style of music they like. I also like the Frays album cover as it focuses on the light that spells the bands name but they have done editing to the people working past it to make them blurry and fade into the background which really crabs my attention.

All Time Low Dirty Work Album Cover

All-American Rejects Gives You Hell Album Cover

Album Covers 4

These album covers are so bright and colourful they describe straight off the type of music being played on the album and the kind of artist the music is coming from, for example, Mika his album cover is very bright and playful which connects to his style of music it is all up beat and child like, this is good as it reaches out to a wider audience. I also like the Kanye West album cover as its very simple and gets my attentions as it has a heart and makes me wonder what his albums all about, which makes you want to buy it and find out.

Album Cover 3

These album covers are hip hop style and I like how they use centre colours which blend together and make the main feature like someone's face stand out. I like the baby cover as it works really well with the title of the album 'never mind', as it shows a baby in water trying to get money which is a very unlikely thing to happen. I love how the blue colours used for the water really stands out behind the baby and looks so realistic. I also like how the titles of the artists are in the corner of the page or not to big so the main focus is the picture.

Hip hop album cover for Nappy Roots, 'The Pursuit of Nappyness'. It is beige and grungy looking and in the middle there's a black and white image of a tree with roots. There's faint scritpy text under the tree. And below there's a black and white image of a city sky line.
Hip hop album cover for Kanye West's album 'GRADUATION'. It shows an animation of a bear being shot out of a spaceship. The sky behind is purplish-pink, and there are different colors all around.
Hip hop album cover for Eminem's album 'RELAPSE'. The pic is a mosaic of him made out of pills.
Hip hop album cover for Lupe Fiasco's album 'LASERS'. It says losers in white light that's plugged into the wall and and an 'A' is spray painted over the O in red paint.
Hip hop album cover for Kid Cudi's debut album Man on the moon. The pic is his face morphed into an orange-ish moon.
Hip hop album cover for Wiz Khalifa's album 'ROLLING PAPERS'. The image is his face made out of greenish smoke, surrounded by a black background. The color of the text is yellow and green.

Album Covers 2

These album covers as more up to date which is the kind of artists that are out now. I like the close up shot of just using the artists head in the shot as its simple and it focuses more on the artist them self than looking at anything in the background. The colours used are varied in each cover but they all bend together. I like T.I album cover as it uses his face on the cover but instead of a straight forward picture, they use different parts of materials to make his face come through onto the page. This is very clever and will get the attention of the audience. The covers used on this page also describes the type of album the artist is going for by the lay out of the cover and the colours used, as Rihanna uses black and white which shows darkness and the way she is shown shows the same genre. This connects to her music in this album.

Chris Brown Album

Album Covers

These album covers are history of the old bands and singers that began to create music in the 60's to 80's. I like the look of the Beatles abbey road shot they used for their album cover, as it is very simple but it has been noticed by many other artists and the public which brings them more fans. The colour used is very simple and plain but it gets your attention, also where its set in London gives the album more of an appeal to a wider range of audience. It isn't a staged picture its just them walking across and zebra crossing and taking a picture whilst they walk which is a easy shot to get. I also like the other album covers on here as they are the start of what the artists in the 60's and 70's looked like and you can see the difference. Artists today still use some of these album ideas but do them in a slightly different way, as it is history.
